From the Bottom Up// As wastewater treatment plant operators age out of the workforce en masse, King County is facing a future without enough staff to run critical infrastructure. So soon-to-be retirees started an in-house training program, recruiting newcomers to a field that younger generations overlooked for decades.

In the period following this film’s release, applications to the Operator-in-Training program tripled to more than 600 applicants.
